It was an utter surprise for me to be offered a position of principal for Okinawa International School (OIS). I humbly accepted the position and formally became new school principal in October 2010. Many thanks go to the founder and director of OIS, Mr. Masato Chinen.
Please let me introduce myself to you briefly. Graduating from Chinen Senior High School, I attended the University of Hawaii and obtained a B.A. degree there and an M.A. in Applied Linguistics/Language Teaching Methodology from Seton Hall University in New Jersey. I taught full time at Okinawa University until I retired in 2004.
Making the best use of the past and present teaching experiences, I would like to contribute myself to the development of OIS. I strongly believe that we should start teaching a second language learning from the early childhood, for the earlier the child is, the faster and easier to acquire the second or third language. OIS has been giving high quality education to the children by adapting the curriculum of an International Baccalaureate (IB) Program. OIS has been the first school in Okinawa to implement the IB education program. The children of OIS are spending their happy school life with their teachers from overseas and Japan. Our school is well prepared to give high quality IB education to create such human resources that can grapple with various types of global problems we are facing today.
OIS is open to all who wish to make a class observation. We warm-heartedly welcome different kinds of children from all over the world and are waiting for them to enroll in OIS.
Your continual support and cooperation is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for taking time to read this message.
